The priority for our Board of Trustees is to have small class sizes operating at Waiwera South School, which at the moment requires the Board to partially fund a teacher.
Our current set up: We run three classes in the morning where Mrs Cleghorn has 12 year 0 -2s, Miss Chapman has 11 year 3-5 and Mrs Bissett has 10 Year 6-8s. In the afternoon we return to two classes. In our Junior Room with Mrs Cleghorn we have 16 year 0-3 students. In our SMiddle Room with Miss Chapman we have 17 year 4 - 8 students.
We love our small class sizes here at Waiwera South School and with the Board of Trustees funding a teacher and Teacher Aide this continues to happen, ensuring our students get quality time with their teachers which is crucial to their learning and development.
Routine
School times are: 9.00am-10.40am: In class 10.40am-11am: Morning tea 11.00am-12.30pm: In class 12.30pm-1.30pm: Lunch 1.30pm-3pm: In class
Assemblies are held on Fridays from 2:30pm-3:00pm. There are approx. three per term and dates will be included in the newsletter and on the calendar. Year 7+8 Technology is on Thursdays. The bus picks up the students at 9:00am to be taken to the Technology Centre at South Otago High School and they are returned to school at about 2:45pm. Our students attend Technology with Clinton School pupils.
