School and Community Events, School Camps and School Trips - 2017

Please refer to the Calendar of Events under the About Our School tab for more dates for events. Below is a summary about some events on the calendar.

TERM THREE
Perceptual Motor Programme (PMP)
PMP has started and will run throughout term three. It is held for all Junior Room students on a Monday from 2.15-3pm and a Tuesday from 9.15-10am. PMP helps with developing children's fine motor skills. All three and four year olds in the district are invited to join in with PMP. If you would like your child/ren to join in, please contact the school office 415 7973 or Paige Holden who is the Junior Room teacher on paige@waiwerasouth.school.nz

Cross Country
We will be training for the Small Schools Cross Country on Wednesday 16th September at Clinton. Some students will qualify to represent either our school or South Otago at the Otago Cross Country in Dunedin on Friday 1st September at Kaikorai Valley College.

Keeping Ourselves Safe
We will be participating in this programme for Health alongside our local Police Education Officer, Constable Rochelle Gordon. This programme is held every two years.

Clued Up Kids
This event is based all around being safe in a range of situations and is for our year six students at the Cross Recreation Centre in Balclutha on Wednesday 2nd August.

Student Led Conferences
These will be held on Monday 7th August. Students are expected to be at these conferences.

Netball Tournaments
This term sees the inaugural South Otago Primary Schools Netball Tournaments happen. We will be participating in these events for years 5-8 on Thursday 10th August and Friday 11th August.

Board of Trustees Meetings
These will be held on Monday 14th August and Monday 11th September at 7pm in the Senior Classroom at school. All welcome.

Transition to School
All three and four year old children are invited to our Transition to School visits in term three. Visits in class will start at 11am each time, finishing at 12.30pm, covering different curriculum areas. Children are welcome to stay for lunch with heading home after that. It would be great if children could please be at school by 10.50am, ready for when the bell rings at the end of morning tea which is 11am, to start in class. The dates for Transition to School in term three are: Monday 21st August, Tuesday 29th August and Friday 22nd September.

Speech Competitions
The year 7 & 8 students will be competing in our Senior Room Speech Competition for a space at the Rotary Speech Competiton in Balclutha on Monday 4th September at South Otago High School. Our Senior Room Speech Competition will be on Thursday 24th August at 11am in the Church. Constable Rochelle Gordon and Melissa Ward will be judging.
The Junior and Middle Room students will be presenting their speeches on Tuesday 5th September starting at 10am in the Church. Timetables for both speech competitions will be sent home to parents.

Tony Tourell Memorial Golf Tournament
Year 5-8 students will be able to participate in this event at Clinton if they wish.

Mandarin Lessons
Mandarin lessons will continue every second Thursday for all students with Amy, our Mandarin teacher this year.

Touch Rugby
This begins on Thursday 21st September for year 3-8 teams with two rounds of grading games. The competition will start in term four. The Teeny Touch Competition for year 1 and 2 players will start in term four.


TERM TWO

Innovative Learning Open Morning

On Friday 19th May we are having an Innovative Learning Open Morning at school. The morning will begin with teachers doing a presentation to visitors. There will then be an opportunity to move around the classes and see how we learning in our Innovative Learning Environments. The morning will begin at 9am and concludes at 10.30am.

Visitors are welcome to stay for morning tea at the conclusion of the open morning. We look forward to seeing lots of visitors on Friday.

Self-Defence: year 7 & 8 girls
This programme is held at Clutha Valley School over two days for our year 7 & 8 girls.

Digital Dynamos Day
Friday 26th May. Four Senior Room students will head to Clutha Valley to take part in a day of digital workshops with also presenting workshops. They will then come back and teach our students what they learnt at this event, involving different types of technology.

National Young Leaders Day
Monday 29th June for our year 8 students in Dunedin.

Rippa Rugby Tournament: year 3-8
Tuesday 30th May (postponement Thursday 1 June). All year 3-8 students will participate in this tournament at the Showgrounds in Balclutha.

Queen's Birthday: Monday 5th June - school closed

South Otago Schools Music Festival - whole school
Wednesday 14th or Thursday 15th June in Balclutha at the Town Hall. This is a night event.

South Otago Year 7 & 8 Hockey Tournament
Tuesday 27th June (postponement Thursday 29th June) in Balclutha.


TERM ONE
Waitangi Day
Monday 6th February - school closed.

Trip to Campbell's Farm:  Family Day Out
Thursday 9th February 2016, NO postponement date. If this trip is postponed, there will still be a barbeque lunch held at school beginning at 12.30pm.

Orientation Meetings
Monday 13th February. Junior Room 3pm, Middle Room 3.15pm and Senior Room 3.30pm. Come along and find out about what happens in your child/ren's classes.

Technology: year 7 & 8 South Otago High School
This begins on Thursday 16th February and is every alternate Thursday from this date.

AgriKids
Roxburgh Saturday 17th February: This is optional and we will be entering a team/s in this event. Confirmation of team/s will be sent home as soon as possible for those available to go. Parents are to get their children to Roxburgh for this.

Small Schools Athletics
Monday 20th February (postponement date Tuesday 21st February) at South Otago High School. All families to meet at the high school by 9.30am. 

Goal Setting Interviews
Thursday 23rd February, beginning 1pm. Students will go home at 12.30pm this day.

Assemblies
Assemblies begin on Friday 24th February and will be at 2.30pm in the Church. They will be every alternate Friday.

South Otago Primary School Athletics
Monday 6th March (postponement dates Wednesday 8th, Friday 10th, Monday 13th March) at South Otago High School.

Senior Room Camp: Camp Columba - Pukerau
This is on Tuesday 14th - Friday 17th March. There is a meeting open for all parents for this on Wednesday 8th March.

Otago Anniversary Day
Monday 20th March - school closed.

Transition to School: all three and four year old students in the district
Tuesday 7th March, Friday 24th March and Wednesday 12th April beginning at 11am until 12.30pm. Children are invited to be at school by 10.45am for morning tea and can stay for lunch with going home after that. Please let the school office know if your child/ren intend on coming to our awesome Transition to School visits!

South-West Otago Rippa Rugby Tournament
All year 3-8 students will participate in this Rippa Rugby tournament on Tuesday 30th May, postponement Thursday 1st June 2016 at the Showgrounds in Balclutha.

Hockey Tournament
For year 7 & 8 students. This is on Tuesday 27th June, postponement Thursday 29th June at the Showgrounds in Balclutha.

Small Schools Cross Country
Wednesday 16th August (postponement date Friday 18th August) at Clinton Rugby Club.

South Otago Primary School Cross Country
Wednesday 23rd August (postponement date Friday 25th August) at Clinton Rugby Club.
